I feel truly honoured to have been invited to be interviewed by

On Landscape Magazine

I have finally reached the point where I feel comfortable to own up to my other life, as a doctor, and no longer feel I have to keep that quiet in relation to my photography.

I was asked to make this print ( above) as a result of the article.

It is from the forest on Deeside, near Balmoral.

It looks so much better when printed on the right side of the paper ( it took me a whole day to work out what I had done wrong.....), and is now on its way to Australia.

Now on with the many forms that need completing in order to get back to New Zealand. The flights are booked.

And there is also the small matter of eldest child's wedding in 19 days time.....

So much to look forward to.


I should probably go and do some shopping .....

free money for artists ( well almost) - its DACS Payback time again

Has your work been used in a book, magazine or on TV?

If so, then with a little bit of effort on your part, you will be able to apply for Artists' Payback

Payback covers secondary uses of your images, such as photocopying, and last year the average payment was £258. 

I claim once a year, and get a few pounds for very little effort as I have had work published in LIP magazine and others. 

So what are you waiting for?!

All you need to know are the ISBN or ISSN numbers of the works that you are published in. 

The money is sitting there waiting for you to claim your share.

All that it will cost you is a few moments of your time.

And if you don't bother, then the rest of us will get more!

free money for artists; have you claimed your Payback?

I was delighted to get an article into this summer's LIP magazine about my weekend with Independent Photography South East (IPSE) back in the spring.

LIP magazine is one of the publications that I am able to use for my annual claim for Payback.

If you have had your work published in any books , magazines or on TV you can claim royalties though Payback on an annual basis. The average payment for a visual artist is £285. All you need to do is complete an online form listing the ISBN numbers of all the publications that you are included in. The royalties relate to the public use of your articles/books by libraries and also cover secondary usage such as photocopying.

My first claim last year earned me a few pounds. This year I hope to earn more due to my publications that are now lodged in the British Library and other national libraries from my publishing house Hawkwood Press. (see here for my illustrated poem) entitled Hawkwood, about my suburban sanctuary.

If you are a visual artist then there is a good chance that you can claim something; what are you waiting for?!
